Technology

Course premises

Simulation-based training enables learners to acquire ultrasound skills in a safe and controlled environment before clinical practice. It is particularly effective for developing probe manipulation, eye–hand coordination, image optimisation, and three-dimensional spatial orientation. It also provides repeated exposure to normal and pathological cases that may be encountered only rarely in clinical settings.
This approach is especially valuable for transvaginal ultrasound, which can be difficult to teach through repeated patient examinations. The Volutracer O.P.U.S.® system offers high-fidelity training without requiring a patient, mannequin, or conventional phantom. Optical tracking detects the position and orientation of a virtual transducer and displays the corresponding ultrasound image in real time. Training is based on high-resolution 3D and 4D STIC volume datasets obtained from real clinical cases. Six degrees of freedom reproduce the translational and rotational movements used during transabdominal and transvaginal scanning. The same clinical case can be examined repeatedly by multiple trainees, supporting structured and standardised education. O.P.U.S.® therefore helps learners develop a systematic scanning technique and essential practical skills before working with patients.
