About the congress

Confronting the challenges
of labor & delivery.

Over fifty international experts join local faculty to discuss new methods, emerging technologies, and critical clinical challenges.

The 11th edition of the international conference series "BIRTH: Clinical Challenges in Labor and Delivery" will be held from December 11th to 13th, 2026 in Budapest, Hungary, at the magnificent Vigadó Palace Theatre. This year's congress is co-organized by Semmelweis University of Budapest and the Hungarian Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology (MNT).

Alongside the organizing presidents, Prof. Gian Carlo Di Renzo and Roberto Romero, the event will be chaired by Prof. Nandor Acs, director of the University's Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and president of the MNT.

The congress will open on December 11th with three training courses in the morning and three in the afternoon. It will continue over the following days with main sessions, breaking news sessions, lunch workshops, and simulation sessions held concurrently with the main sessions.

Topics include new methods of assisting vaginal birth (OdonAssist), cesarean section techniques, postpartum hemorrhage, twin births, the use of AI for improved management of labor and delivery, preterm birth prevention, challenges posed by obesity and diabetes, and the use of ultrasound as a tool to better diagnose labor disorders.

The Birth Congress — now in its 11th edition (first held in Rome in 2005) — continues to represent an important scientific event for human reproductive health care, advancing the education of physicians and other professionals internationally.

This edition is dedicated to
Ignác Semmelweis
Buda, July 1, 1818 — Döbling, August 13, 1865

Hungarian physician and pioneer of antiseptic procedures. In 1847, he discovered that the high incidence of puerperal fever in maternity clinics could be drastically reduced through hand disinfection. In 2013, UNESCO included documents relating to his discovery in the Memory of the World Register. Hungary's largest university bears his name.
